Emmet-Chalmers Firefighters Host 2nd Annual Fire Prevention Week Kickoff

MACOMB, IL — Sunday, October 9, 2016 was the start of Fire Prevention Week.  According to NFPA, only a small percentage of people know how old their smoke alarms are, or how often they need to be replaced.  This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years,” represents the final year of the three-year effort to educate the public about basic but essential elements of smoke alarm safety.

Emmet – Chalmers Firefighters hosted the department’s second annual kickoff event with fire trucks on display, activities for children and informational items for parents.  Firefighters educated kids and parents alike about fire safety; including, how to call 911, how to use a fire extinguisher and where to find the date of manufacture on the back of a smoke alarm.  This year, Sparky the Fire Dog made a special appearance at the kickoff event.
