About Us

Covering Emmet Township and Chalmers Township in McDonough County just west of Macomb, Illinois.

A referendum was held early in 1976 to establish the Emmet – Chalmers Fire Protection District.  The voters, by a 2 to 1 margin, favored the establishment of a FPD.  A fire station was completed with over 5,000 hours of volunteer labor in 1979.

The Emmet – Chalmers Fire Protection District includes Emmet Township and Chalmers Township surrounding  the west edge of Macomb, Illinois in McDonough County.  The district includes residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural areas.  We protect several residential subdivisions, parks, and churches.  Areas along the highways include business and industry.  Major highways (US 136, US 67, Illinois 336 and Illinois 110), a railway, and the Lamoine River also pass through the district.

We are the primary response agency in our district to any fire, vehicle collision, and hazardous material emergencies and also respond to medical emergencies, search and rescue, and weather emergencies.

The ECFPD works with all of the McDonough County fire departments, which provide and receive mutual aid from each other as needed.  We are part of Division 55 of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS).  MABAS is a statewide mutual aid system and allows us to pull in nearly any type of resource needed for a large emergency.
