Testing your smoke alarm
Always maintain your smoke alarm according to the manufacturer’s instructions! Mark your calendars to test your smoke alarm at least once a month using the test button. Smoke alarms with regular batteries need new batteries at least once a year. If the alarm chirps, warning the battery is low, replace the battery right away.
Smoke alarms with non-replaceable 10-year batteries are designed to remain effective for up to 10 years. Replace the entire smoke alarm right away if the warning alarm chirps!
When replacing a battery, follow the manufacturer’s list of batteries on the back of the alarm and their instructions. The model may require specific batteries that must be used.
Remember, a smoke alarm only saves lives if it is working properly!
